Belated Merry Christmas 2017 and Happy New Year!!!

Wow it's been quite the year. 

It's been busy, busy, busy!!! 

I just read my last post and the next day was going to be the kite festival. 

Well here are a few pictures! 

We are addicted  to kite flying!

It's hard to take pictures of all the kites at once, but there was a ton of them.

The next day we were off to what Nova Scotians call the South Shore.

They were having a whirly gig festival and I love whirly gigs!

It was in Shelburne. 

Shelburne is also known to be the set for the movie

Scarlet Letter starring Demi Moore.

That was a long time ago. I think it was in the '90s

We then went to the Birchtown Museum. 

Birchtown is known for where the black loyalists settled.

If you've never read The Book of Negros....

well you need to.

CBC made a mini series last year on it. 

Of course it's not as good as the book, but it was still pretty good.

So I wanted to visit the museum and to see the area mentioned in the book and the TV show.

It still boggles my mind on how humans can treat one another.

What gives us the right to enslave people, treat them lower than dirt...

I have to stop talking about this because I get so upset when I start.

Some places in the museum you almost wanted to cry.....

But then we were off to Carter's Beach.

In the summer on nice days, the water is like the Carribean, 

turquoise and beautiful.

It was cloudy the day we went, but nice all the same.

There's also sand dollars!!

I didn't even know they existed in Nova Scotia, but they do.

So cool....and seals and seals, and more seals.

Well I talked about the Grand Fondo and we participated!

And I didn't come in last!!!

I can't believe that I finished.

We plan on doing it again this year.

We only did the piccolo which is 34km.

This year they had the super gran which was 160km!!

We had a beautiful fall. And I had a bumper crop of tomatoes!!

So much so that I had to make salsa again.

I hadn't made salsa in years. I mean at least 10 years.

We will be making some again next year. We forgot how good it was.

I bottled over 50 jars and I think half is already gone.

The reason for all the different colour tomatoes is because we plant heirloom

varieties. They taste a lot better than the hybrid ones.

We got rid of the side by side because it wasn't what we needed. It was too big for our needs. 

Sooooo we got a golf cart! It's red and when my friend saw it, she said you should make

it into a ladybug!

She didn't have to say it twice!

I love, love, love it!!!!

I zip around the property on that thing like nobody's business.

And we live close to the golf course, so I just drive it there when I play the occasional 

round of golf.

Jamie now refuses to drive it on the golf course. tee hee ;)

We also brought my cousin and his wife to see New France

There's also a place called Balancing Rock....as you can see by the picture.

This fall I started a new part time job. 

No I don't have enough to do with my full time job, my gardening job, my studies etc...

I decided to apply to be a radio host at our local station. I do the radio bingo every second Friday night and I have morning show every second Saturday morning from 7-12!!! 

Isn't that soooo cool!

I love it!!!

I actually have fans.

That's such a weird feeling. Jamie and I were talking while waiting to go see a movie 

and a woman recognized my voice.

I'm still doing the CTV Morning Live gig every few weeks. That's fun also.

I wish I could do these things full time.

Now that would be a blast!!

Well Christmas came upon us and it was nice.

We had new additions to the family. 

Like I've mentioned before, my cousin and his wife moved down from 

Ontario. So we spent time with them. My uncle, (my cousin's father), is in

the process of moving down here also.

Soon all my father's family will be down here!

That would be cool.

Dave had a local artist carve Simonne our Dachshund.

 She carves with a chainsaw.

I love it!

Ouest-Ville Perennials and garden planting.

Well Saturday was a fantabulous, but cold day. It was my first day at the farmer's market. It was sooooo cold and it wasn't too busy, but I managed to sell soap and Epicure. So if I'm doing well now, I'm hoping when the weather gets better and the tourists show up I'll do even better!

Then after the market was done it was off to Ingomar (about 2 hours from our house) to get my custom made whirly gig Dave had ordered for me. A woman milking a goat! It's so cute.

Then we stopped at an old friend's house in Pubnico. I hadn't seen her in years!! Like I mean over 12 years! Alice owns a garden business. The last time I had been there it had just opened. It was just tiny. Now it's a booming, thriving business. I'm so happy for her! Check out her website. Ouest-ville Perennials

We chatted, and then had a photo session with her photographer friend, Margie. We had a good laugh, because neither one of us are good at having our photo taken. It took at least 15 shots to kinda get a nice one. But it was fun.

We left her place around 6pm and stopped at another friend's house, not far from Alice's house. We met last year when she got some kids disbudded at our house. She also has sheep. Mary (had a little lamb..lol), gave us a demo in sheep herding. They train herding dogs. It was amazing I had never seen that before. The dog brought that flock of sheep right to us. Amazing.

Then we came home had a plate of nachos and went to bed exhausted.

Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and plant the gardens. Mud or no mud. It had to be done. So I started yesterday. I got the lettuce, peas, beans and beets done.

Then today I finished with carrots, more peas, pumpkins and half a kg of sunflowers!!

I also planted my tomato plants while the chickens were out. Not a smart move. It was a hard go planted a garden, making rows while sinking to your ankles.

But it's done. Hopefully they'll grow.

Whirly Gigs, Udders and Spring Flings!

Well one bad thing about a goat having a single kid is that there might be the possibility of it suckling on just one teat.

Well we seem to be having this problem with Cindi Lou. Prince William is only eating from one side. Soooooo.....this is what we are dealing with!

This is so wrong

One very lopsided udder. They say that a seasoned milker is worth their weight in gold. Well guess what....They're RIGHT!

Not only does Cindi Lou have a lopsided udder, she kicks and jumps and POOPS on the milking stand. I have to pick her up and put her on it. She has very bad milking manners. I really thought that she'd be a good milker. Before she was bred she'd jump on the stand, let me feel her udder, stand still as a statue. A perfect little milker in the making.

Then.....

She had a baby. ugh. So now to even out the udder we have to milk her twice a day. It's coming along. The other side is getting bigger. We probably got it just in time. It wasn't producing much milk either, but it's getting better. We have to use the hobble. I don't like to but until she calms down we have no choice. Tonight was the first night she didn't poop on the stand.

But she seems to be more tolerant with J. milking her. So doesn't move with him milking. So he might have found himself a job.

Chicks!

It was chick days last Tuesday. We got 24 laying hens and 15 meat kings. So far they are all doing well. Since the incubator massacre I needed to get more laying hens. I find those brown layers are so boring but this year I've got no choice.

This weekend Dave and J. packed up the soap and went to Pubnico for their gardeners Spring Fling! I, of course, was working. He sold a whack of soaps and Epicure and met alot of people.

A guy with whirly gigs gave one to him, another vendor gave him a daylily plant and another vendor gave him chocolates! He made out like a bandit!

He bought a painted rock from a lady. It has a fox on it. It's really nice. I wish I could paint half as good.
