Well, well, well....

Things are turning great here on Spring Peeper Farm
It's been a strange spring.
Not particularly warm or cold.
Evenings are still cold.
And wind.
Lots and lots of wind!
I've planted almost all the seeds except the ones
that are cold sensitive.
But  the tomato plants I started in the basement
are pathetic.
Wow. I won't even post a picture of them.
Sad, sad, sad.
I hope they make it through the
season.

The pepper plants didn't look good at the beginning,
so even though some died,  the ones that
survived are looking good....so far.

If there is one thing that lifts my spirits on a sad day
is cut flowers.  I just need to buy a small bouquet
of cut flowers and my day is made.
Well since Covid, cut  flowers are harder to
find than sanitizer!
Today we were in Yarmouth and I found some!
I was on cloud nine.  We also
went a had a visit at Ouest-ville Perennials.
Yikes!  Let's just say I'm broke.
But my gardens are going to be beautiful!
Alice, owner of Ouestville has  the best plants.
Very hardy. They never die!
What more can a gardener ask for!

I also  stopped and picked up our tub of worms.
Waste-check had worms for vermiculture for us.
It's for where I work. We are going to let
the wormies eat our compost and make poop.
Isn't nature grand.

Mr. and Mrs Duckworth finally had ducklings!!
She showed up last week with (what we think is)
13 ducklings!!
That's quite the brood.   They are so cute.

Well things can't always go well.
Dave had started my cold cellar.
He just wanted to move the water pump a few feet so
I could have more room.
I won't go into details (because I don't know the details)
but we had to dig up the well, which we had
no clue where it was, and put a pump in the
well.  Chaching! Now we're broke.
It was going to happen eventually. It was just a matter
of time.  At least it happened now and not
in the winter when the ground is frozen.
So now, hopefully we won't be bothered with the pump
or well for 20+ years.
But at least we know where our well is now.
About 2 feet from the herb garden. Phew.
That was close.

Have a Blessed Day.

Spring has Sprung!

Ok, well one can only hope that it's shown up.
This winter has been super mild compared to last year's.

I can actually see the lawn.  Ok, the brown lawn.
But it will become green in due time.
Green and with two other raised beds...
heh, heh, heh.

Yes, it didn't take much convincing for hubby to agree to put two more.
Not after the horrible veggie prices this winter.
And it's planning on getting worse.
From what I've heard, it's not only here but everywhere.

Oh well, it's just a bit more work, but the taste and quality is better.
I'll be planting the regular things this spring.
Things like dill, carrots, beets, yellow beans, pumpkins etc...
But this year I'll also be planting...
Cucamelons!!!
Or Mouse Melons  I always try something different in my veggie gardens.
Sometimes it works...sometimes it don't.
I remember planting dill was something weird for me.
Well it does so well here, that it's now a staple in my garden.
Then again I've planted things I'd rather forget...as a matter of fact, I have forgotten it.
I can't remember it.  Oh! Potatoes.
Might seem like a normal thing to plant, but for the life of me, we cannot grow potatoes on our property. Which is a shame really. Since we eat so many of them.

So soon, hopefully my garden will look like this.

Something else I'm putting new in my garden this year...
a bee hive!!!
Woot!! Woot!
I'm taking the plunge.
I've ordered my bees and they should be ready for pick up late May or early June.
I'm excited and nervous.
I wanted to wait another year, but I say that every year.
Finally hubby said, "Just do it!"
So he called and ordered the bees.
No turning back now!
I really want to steer away from using sugar in my cooking as much as I can.
But buying honey for cooking is too expensive. And I have no maple trees to tap.
The answer...Voila!
Bees!
I want them to be as healthy as possible so I won't be taking their honey the first year and probably not even the second year.
I've got a lot to learn and I might even regret my bargain.
but I doubt it.

So stay tuned to see how this spring pans out.

Have a Blessed Day.

Sigh.....

Spring has sprung.

Finally.

The garlic is growing, and the reason for the tomato cages is because...

The chickens are free range again. And they'll eat every little green thing they see.

Daisy is "over the moon!" about being outside again.
It doesn't look like it, but take my word for it...she's happy.

And Peeper is singing the praises of no snow, well not much snow anyway,  longer days and warmer temps. Hallelujah!!!!! Everyone is in a better mood.

Only in Nova Scotia....two weeks ago it was -2 degrees Celcius at 7am and +26 at 5pm.

Gotta love Nova Scotia.

Have a Blessed Night!

I think I can smell it...

I think I can smell it!

Can you?

I think it's spring!!! Hmmmm....I'm not sure.

Just in case that spring is thinking of not showing up, well....I'm planting seedlings and putting eggs in the incubator. I'm trying to entice spring to stay. I'm hoping that I'll be successful.

This year we are trying out brussel sprouts.

Even Bibi the hen wants it to stay. That way she gets to scratch around the yard every day.

We are getting our calf Friday. The dairy farm called and one of their cows gave birth to a very big boy calf. It would have been better if we would have had him in a month from now, but you gotta take him when they're available.

Binoo living life dangerously.

Have a Blessed Spring day!!
